Tulsa State Fair: What To See, What To Do This Weekend

It's the weekend and what better than to go to the Tulsa State Fair with your friends, family or just by yourself to enjoy the sights and sounds.


According to their website, the fair is Tulsa's largest family event, providing education experiences and entertainment for all ages. With 1.1 million estimated in attendance last year, fair organizers are expecting another year of educational and entertaining experiences for the community.

So here's a list of just some of the events occurring this weekend at the fair. Check back on Monday for daily update's of new event's next week and for video of our Channel 8 team at the fair.


Saturday (9/29):

  • For Adults: Need an afternoon pick-me-up? The QuickTrip Center Lower Level will host a wine garden at the fair beginning at noon. Attendees can sample different wines from Oklahoma and buy a 2012 commemorative wine glass.
  • Agriculture Education: Looking to learn something new during your visit to the fair today? The Super Duty Arena will host a birthing center with livestock giving birth to an array of animals and a surgical suite, complete with surgeries being performed on livestock animals.
  • Contests: The Tulsa State Fair will be home to several different contests occurring during its 11-day run. Those attending today can take part in a cooking stacking contest, a tic tac toe contest and a pie eating contest at the Just for Kids building located on the east end of the fair in Central Park Hall.
  • Grounds Entertainment: The fair also will  be host to animals you may not encounter on a daily basis. Perondi's Stunt Dog Show will showcase why your pet is man's best friend while the Live Shark Encounter will feature the only traveling shark exhibit in he U.S. Attendees can also interact with various species from Down Under at the Aussie Kingdom exhibit.
  • Performances: Several different performances will be available for fair attendees. Over at the Oklahoma Stage, Vertical Horizon will perform at 8 pm. Dante & the Hawks will set up their act over at the International Stage with shows at 5, 7 and 9 pm. Finally, Sean Adair will take stage at the Bud Light Tailgate Tent beginning at 5 pm with performances at 7 and 9 pm.
  • Muscogee Creek Stage: Those looking for music and competition can head to this stage for the Oklahoma State Picking and Fiddling Championships beginning at 11 am. This is the event's 40th anniversary and all ages will compete to win titles in mandolin, banjo and finger-style guitar.
  • For the Kids: Families can head to the Pavilion next to the Oklahoma Stage for the Disney on Ice show with performances at 11:30 am and 3 and 7:30 pm. The act features performances from Disney favorites Rapunzel, Cinderella and Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen.


Sunday (9/30):
