Bike-MS Raises Big Money

Posted: Updated:

A lot of people recently took an entire weekend to join the fight against MS in Oklahoma.

The Bike-MS ride, from Tulsa to Oklahoma City, will make a huge contribution to that effort.

Tulsa's Channel-8 is proud to have sponsored the event and several members of our staff took part.

Ride Coordinator Shannon Blackwell says more than 600 bicycle riders registered and more than 200 volunteers helped with the ride.

So far they've collected $350,000 as a result of the effort and the donation deadline is still more than two weeks away.

Blackwell says next year the ride will feature a different setup.

Instead of covering 150 miles, over two days, it will be based in Chandler.

Riders will arrive on Friday and do take two different routes on Saturday and Sunday, that will start and finish in Chandler.

That will allow rides of various distances, so people can take part, without being able to do 75-miles in a day.

They're hoping that will grow the ride in the future.

For those who'd like to train for next year, there are training rides that start in the spring.

They're put on by the Tulsa Bicycle Club and local bike shops.

The group rides will help you go the distance, on Bike-MS, in September of 2013.
