Organizers of a newly sanctioned BBQ cook-off this weekend are hoping to attract big crowds and great cooks.
The Sand Springs Chillin & Grillin BBQ Competition is back for a second year of competition and hungry visitors beginning Friday through Saturday. The event will begin on Friday at 5 pm until 11 pm and Saturday from 11 am until 4 pm and will take place at River City Park in Sand Springs.
"Sand Springs Area Chamber of Commerce is excited about the KCBS sanctioned Chillin & Grillin BBQ cook-off," office manager Trena Zickefoose said. "This is the second year for the cook-off, but the first year for KCBS sanctioning."
The event will feature a variety of food to eat, including a taster kit for purchase on Saturday. Free concerts and activities for adults and children also will be present at the cook-off this weekend.
Two raffle drawings also will be featured, one for a Hasty-Bake Grill and another for a set of Cooper Touring CS4 tires, according to the events release.
