Garbage Truck Damages Downtown Bridge; Part of IDL Closed

The truck's lift hit a beam on the northbound I-244 bridge over 3rd St.

The truck was heading west on 3rd St.

Part of the Inner Dispersal Loop is closed after an empty garbage truck damaged a downtown bridge Monday afternoon.

KTUL photographer James Puckett reports that the truck is stuck under the Interstate 244/Highway 75 bridge over 3rd Street.

The northbound lanes of I-244/U.S. 75 are closed at this time while crews inspect the bridge. That's on the west leg of the IDL.

Third street is also closed at Houston and Nogales Avenues.

The roll-off style truck hauls large trash containers on its back. The lift on the truck somehow engaged while the truck rolled down 3rd Street and caught the bridge beam above.

On Sunday night a tornado went through the town of Carney. It destroyed or damaged about 40 homes. When you look out at the area there are homes in every direction that show some kind of damage.
