Midtown Neighbors Staying Alert and Tackling Crime

Posted: Updated:
Tulsa, OK -

The Tulsa Midtown Alert Neighbors group is sounding the alarm. It's warning residents about burglars posing as door-to-door sales people.

Glenn Lyles says he's keeping an eye out in his area. "I'm one of the self-appointed watch dogs," he told Tulsa's Channel 8.

Midtown Tulsa Alert Neighbors is encouraging other to join him.

On the group's Facebook page there's a push to get neighbors to speak up.

Some of them already have, warning others of suspicious people seen going door to door.

Anyone who sees anything out of the ordinary is also urged to call the non emergency number for police.

"By all means, give us a call. Literally that's what we get paid to do. We get paid to go there, check out, see if it's right or if it's wrong," said Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley.

He says burglars are counting on concerned citizens to do the opposite.

They even try to confuse you.

"They'll go knock on doors, and if you there they will have a good story for why they're in the neighborhood, they're something or they thought this was their buddies house," explained Officer Ashley.

Glenn Lyles says he's not falling for it and neither will his neighbors.

"If they're looking for an easy move to come into this neighborhood and rob, they're looking at the wrong neighborhood," he exclaimed.

If you spot something suspicious in your neighborhood, don't hesitate to call the non-emergency number that's 918-596-9222.
