"A lot of work has been done with this," said Mayor Craig Thurmond, describing an agreement between the city and SIG-Broken Arrow, Ltd to develop the Shops at Aspen Creek, a regional destination location which will be comprised of a 90,000 square foot facility with 14 screens. The 100-acre development is located south of the Creek Turnpike at Aspen Avenue.
"Before there was nothing in this area," said Ifti Choubhary, who has been working on the south side of BA for 14 years, and saw it when it was really undeveloped.
"I mean now it's developing, I can tell that I can see the difference," he said.
The mayor described the importance of the deal by liking it to the impact Bass Pro had on the north side of town.
"That would be nice," said Brandy Leal. She has lived on the south side for 8 years, and welcomes the addition of a shopping complex as well.
"Not have to go all the way to Bixby to go to the shopping strip or go to the other side of Broken Arrow to go shopping. It would be nice to have that closer by instead of having to travel so far," she said.
The city agreed to an overall incentive package of up to $7.25 million.
