Area residents still looking for something to do with their friends, family or loved ones need look no further than one the nation's top ten Oktoberfests.
The 2012 Tulsa Oktoberfest kicked off Thursday afternoon at the River West Festival Park on Jackson Avenue. The annual celebration of German culture and customs will last through Sunday afternoon.
According to their website, the event is one of Tulsa's most celebrated festivals with a long history of providing authentic German food, fun and drinks to those who attend.
And The Today Show joined in on praising the Tulsa Oktoberfest saying, "The next best thing to Munich is Tulsa." The show cited the bands flown from Germany to the annual chicken dance as reasons for being one of the best Oktoberfests in the nation.
Festival attendees will be greeted with entertainment for all ages ranging from a relay keg rolling contest to a Children's Tent and music all over the grounds.
Authentic German cuisine also is available for those seeking schnitzel, strudel and more schnitzel! Pastries, appetizers and other American favorites also will be present during the festival's weekend run.
The festival also is offering free shuttle service for attendees to and from the grounds. Paid parking is available are locations around the Oktoberfest ranging from $5 and $10.
