PAKTIKA PROVINCE, Afghanistan -
A Tulsa native with the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division competed in the Iron Dragon fitness competition in Afghanistan, Friday, Oct. 19.
2nd Lt. Shawn Dolan competed in the tests that challenge soldiers mental and physical stamina.
"The Iron Dragon consisted of 80 push-ups, 80 sit-ups, 20 dips and 10 pull-ups, back to back and graded pretty strictly," said Dolan, the executive officer of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery.
Women in the competition must complete 50 push-ups, 75 sit-ups, 10 dips and five pull ups to be considered an Iron Dragon.
46 soldiers entered the competition, but only 11 were named Iron Dragons. Only the top 25 percent of soldiers are called Iron Dragons for completing the competition.
Normally in the competition, a three-mile run is included, however the terrain and altitude in Afghanistan is considered too hazardous.
