It may be one of the worst cases involving meth in Oklahoma. Authorities say a child was holding a shake-and-bake meth lab on a bike with his father, when the lab exploded. The father is being held at the Wagoner County Jail. We're told he's not cooperating with authorities and is on suicide watch.
It all began with a father and his 5 year son on a bike. A neighbor, named Cassandra was walking by.
"He had a bottle or a bag with a bottle in it that had splashed up and hit his son's face."
It was last Thursday when the child was burned by the chemicals.
Sheriff Bob Colbert says it was a shake and bake meth lab something all too common in Oklahoma. But even more disturbing, the time it took to take the child to the hospital.
"He was not taken to the hospital for almost 3 days. They were attempting to doctor this child themselves until they finally got to the point that somebody else became involved and got him to the hospital," says Sheriff Colbert.
Cassandra has regrets.
"I recognized the scream."
She wishes "she" had made a call to authorities that day.
"I know now that he's okay so I am able to say he did get the help he needed but it still brings me back to, I could have done something about it."
Cassandra hopes others will learn from her mistake, and report what authorites are labeling child neglect with the father's arrest.
"Shortly after his incarceration he attempted to take his life and the jailer basically saved his life and cut him down. He was trying to hang himself. Yes he was."
Other charges may be pending against the father. We'll know more when the sheriff's department completes its investigation.
