Do The Current Players Care About The OU-Notre Dame History?

Posted: Updated:

The Oklahoma Sooners are preparing for their biggest non-conference match-up of the Bob Stoops era.

Excluding national championship games the OU-Notre Dame game has the Sooner-Nation buzzing like never before.

These two tradition rich programs have met just nine times, but there have been some meaningful match ups.

Notre Dame has won eight of the nine previous meetings.  Their biggest win came in 1957 when they snapped the Sooners 47-game win streak.

The current players know the history, but does it matter to them?

"1-8, not good.  Yeah, and the 47-game win streak.  I've been around Norman a while." OU Center Gabe Ikard said, "That's all great and it's unfortunate that happened, but it's one of those things where we can't worry about any of that stuff.  We just have to prepare for this team this week.  That's a great story for the game and it sets it up nice for the GameDay stuff.  But when it comes down to it it's just two teams playing each other on the field."

Watch the OU-Notre Dame game on Tulsa's Channel 8 this Saturday at 7:00pm.  Tune in at 6:00pm for our pregame special.
