Two men are in jail after an officer heard a gunshot fired from a hand gun in a truck south of Tulsa early Wednesday morning.
Tulsa Police arrested Trevor Austin, 31, and Fredrick Dunlap, 30, both of Tulsa after they allegedly fired a handgun from a dark-colored pickup truck after 2:30 am at the intersection of 71st Street and West 33rd Avenue.
An officer located a block south from the intersection said the truck was the only vehicle at the intersection when he witnessed the shot fired. He said they proceeded to speed away from him at a high rate of speed after shooting the gun going eastbound on West 71st Street.
According to the arrest report, the officer and another located on West 71st Street, who witnessed the truck speed past him, initiated their police sirens and began their pursuit.
The officers said Austin and Dunlap failed to yield for approximately half a mile while Austin tossed the firearm and a box of ammunition out of the truck from the passenger side.
Once they were able to get the truck to stop, the officers said Austin failed to comply with their commands and proceeded to launch several pepper balls striking him in the back and lower leg area, according to the arrest report.
The arresting officer said he smelled a "strong odor of alcohol on his breath and person," in reference to Austin. He also said he had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.
Tulsa police were able to recover the firearm in the 2600 block of West 71st Street.
Both are now at the Tulsa County Jail and due in court on Wednesday.
