Halloween may take place Wednesday, but events occurring in the area this weekend are already making it seem like the night of candy, costumes and carved pumpkins is already upon us.
So here are just a few of the events occurring this weekend and before Wednesday for adults and children looking to get into the Halloween spirit early.
Derby of the Dead - The Fraternal Order of Police and Joe Mama's Pizza will host this family friendly event beginning at 7 pm through midnight Saturday on Elgin Avenue. Activities at the event include live music, free face-painting, costume contests and a monster dance-off. The derby match will begin at 8:45 with proceeds benefiting the Tulsa Police Officers' Memorial Fund.
Tulsa Zoo - Those looking to show off their pumpkin carving skills can do so at the zoo's First Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. Registration ends 5 pm Friday with judging set to begin at 3 pm Saturday. Carvers can drop of their pumpkins at the admissions office. Hallowzooeen - The Tulsa Zoo also will host its "premier spooky (but not-too scary) trick-or-treat event for the whole family." According to the zoo's website, the event is an child-friendly safe alternative to the more traditional ones. HallowMarine - And if the zoo isn't enough, you can head on over to the Aquarium's annual Halloween event "glowing" with new fun. The celebration begins Saturday through the 31st from 6:30 pm to 9 pm. Attendees will take part in a glow in the dark treasure hunt, highlighting the mysterious ability of some marine creatures who can glow in the dark. Claremore Horse Track - Those looking to get out of Tulsa can head to the Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs for their Halloween celebration, complete with a BBQ cook-off and a free concert. NSU Tahlequah Halloween Carnival - Families looking for a safe and fun way to celebrate Halloween can head to the Tahlequah campus of Northeastern State University. The event will take place 7 pm Monday in front of Wilson hall in the center of campus, south of the library. Games, candy and booths will be set up for those in attendance.
Riverside TPD Halloween - The Riverside Tulsa Police division is hosting their third annual Haunted Halloween Precinct from 5 to 7 pm Monday. Families in attendance can visit with officers, look at police equipment, including a helicopter and police cars and children can play games and receive treats.
