Tulsa -
A 52-year-old man is in jail Monday after he drove through a traffic barrier at the BooHaHa Parade and struck a police officer.
Peter Williams, of Tulsa, was arrested Sunday afternoon following the incident that occurred at the parade on Brookside. Williams is accused of driving through a Tulsa Police Department barrier and hitting an officer conducting traffic control in the right hand and right leg area.
According to the police report, the incident occurred just before 4:30 in the 4500 block of South Peoria. Williams was headed northbound on South Peoria in a Buick Century after pushing the barrier into the center turn lane.
Williams ignored attempts by the police officer he struck to get him to stop and continued northbound at approximately 15-20 mph. After he struck the police officer, Williams proceeded to run a red light until he was stopped by two other officers located at the parade.
According to the police report, Williams said he had consumed a 32 oz beer and Xanax prior to the incident in a Walmart parking lot.
Officers said Williams had slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and had blood shot eyes at the time of his arrest.
Williams is due in court later this week.
