He spent 35 years working in news and started the Waiting Child program in 1980.

Former Channel 8 news anchor Carole Lambert spoke at the memorial.

She says, Bob had a talent for turning misfortune into fortune for the children.

And that his legacy of love continues here today.

Daughter, Pamela Hower says, "I would say if anything, that he's most proud of is, it is obviously the Waiting Child, and being able to get homes for children. Why he was doing the series, he adopted out more than 400 children himself."

And over the years, more than 4,000 kids  have been adopted through the Waiting Child program.
