Taleya Mayberry had a team-best 20 points, Loren McDaniel posted a double-double and freshman Ashley Clark netted double-digit points to lead Tulsa to an 88-50 win over Rogers State in an exhibition contest on Wednesday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
"Obviously we are a better offensive team than we were at this time last year," Head Coach Matilda Mossman. "We have more people that can shoot the ball, which takes a lot of pressure off Taleya. She played more relaxed tonight. Our team as a whole had 21 assists, which means we are sharing the ball, we shot 55-percent and we are finishing shots."
McDaniel had 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Clark added 12 points. Tiffani Couisnard had eight points, 10 rebounds, a team-best six steals and five assists. Freshmen Jasmine Vasquez and Antoinet Webster each added seven points. All 10 players in the game scored at least four points and seven of them hit at least one three-pointer.
Grovey got the ball rolling for TU as she hit a three-pointer with just 11 seconds ticked off the clock, the first of five trey's for Tulsa in the first frame. Mayberry posted a team-best 10 points in the first half, while McDaniel added seven points and seven rebounds, as the Hurricane climbed to a 22-point lead (41-19) at the break.
The Hurricane continued to inch further ahead in the second half for a game-high 39-point advantage (83-44). Tulsa hit six more three-point baskets and went 7-for-10 from the free throw line in the second frame.
Tulsa shot an impressive 63-percent from the field and 66-percent from behind the arc in the second half, and 55-percent from the field, 45-percent from behind the arc and 73-percent (11-15) from the charity stripe in the contest. As a team, TU had 21 assists, 17 steals and four blocks.
