OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Demand letters have been delivered to Gov. Mary Fallin and other state officials claiming a $2 million appropriation to a private, non-profit livestock show is unconstitutional and demanding that they recover the money.
The letters were hand delivered Wednesday by Republican state Rep. Mike Reynolds - who has filed a lawsuit alleging that the appropriation to the Oklahoma Youth Expo livestock show is an inappropriate use of taxpayer money and is unconstitutional. The letters are signed by Reynolds' attorney, Andrew Karim.
The letters state that no state taxpayer money can be used to finance the private livestock show and that appropriations can only be made for public purposes. The letters demand that the officials recover the money.
Officials have said the appropriation was authorized as part of a public-private partnership.
