Up With Trees Needs Help Keeping Tulsa Green

Posted: Updated:

Tulsa's Up With Trees is asking for some help.

They need sponsors to help care for 10-miles of median strips.

They're located along 15th Street, Yale and the length of 71st Street.

They've adopted those trees, because there City of Tulsa doesn't have money for maintenance.

But as you might imagine, taking care of them isn't cheap.

Anna American, of Up With Trees says the switch made good sense, because the medians need the same type of chare they give the rest of their trees.

But medians are especially difficult, because the trees often have less space, so watering and other care becomes even more important.

Their regular trees can be left on their own after a couple years, but that's not the case with medians.

Due to the city's funding issues some of the medians were suffering from a lack of water, so this summer the group's crews soaked them down once week.

It was crucial to upgrade the care, because the drought was brutal on the trees.

America says sponsors can support a section of median for $1900 a year.

Sponsors will get a sign on the location they choose to recognize their contribution.
