Oilers Fall to Allen, 6-3

Posted: Updated:
The Allen powerplay that the Oilers had stymied for two straight games, came to life on Saturday night.

Tulsa, which had killed off 12 straight Allen powerplays over the last two contests, surrendered three powerplay goals in a 6-3 loss in front of 4,262 at the BOK Center.  It was the Oilers third straight defeat at the hands of the first place Americans and first home regulation loss of the season.

After Americans forward Jarrett Lukin scored the only goal of the first period, Tulsa responded with a string of strong shifts and scoring chances through the first ten minutes of the second frame.  Ben Gordon scored his fifth goal of the season at 2:15 and extended his CHL-leading point streak to eight games.  Seven minutes later, Michel Beausoleil pounded home a slap shot from the high slot, a goal that was carefully reviewed after Beausoliel's shot rang off the post and down into the net.  The Tulsa lead was quickly erased by Lukin who chipped in his second goal of the game just 90 seconds after Beausoleil's tally.  The Americans scored on back-to-back powerplays in the latter half of the second period and took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.

Allen center Brian McMillin squashed any hope of an Oilers comeback with an unlikely goal at 1:26 of the third.  On a faceoff in the Oilers zone, McMillin slapped a shot off the puck drop that surprised everyone in the building including Tulsa goalie Ian Keserich.  McMillin's third of the season gave Allen a three goal edge and signaled the end of the night for Keserich who surrendered five goals on 28 shots.  Third year center Gary Steffes gave the Oilers a glimmer of hope when he buried a gorgeous pass from David Alexandre Beauregard at 2:43, but Allen would add another powerplay goal to crush any hopes of a Tulsa comeback.

The Americans finished the night 3-for-5 with the man advantage while the Oilers failed to capitalize on any of their six powerplay chances.

The Oilers fell to 3-4-1 and dipped below .500 for the first time this season.  Tulsa is back at home on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.

The song "Fly" by Sugar Ray blared from the football stadium speakers on a hot afternoon at Bixby High School. "We've been playing together since what, fourth grade? It's going to be awesome!"Coupled with that experience and camaraderie is a favorable classification change.
