Deadline Draws Near For Disaster Relief Following Wildfires

Posted: Updated:

Time is running out for those seeking federal assistance after this summer's devastating wildfires in Cleveland and Creek Counties.

FEMA representatives said Tuesday homeowners, renters and business owners in affected areas have until Nov. 21 to apply for disaster assistance.

Michelann Ooten with the state department of emergency management said the assistance is only good for folks who had significant property damage due to the fires that lasted from August 3rd to August 14th.

"Registration is the first step in the process, but time is running out," she said. "We want everyone who is eligible to receive assistance as soon as possible."

More than $6.7 million has been provided to citizens of Cleveland and Creek Counties.

Applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for low interest loans on disaster-related losses of real and personal property must also be submitted by Nov. 21.

To register for FEMA disaster assistance, those with access to and who wish to use a computer or smart phone may apply online at www.disasterassistance.gov, via web-enabled phones at m.fema.gov or the FEMA app. Survivors can also register by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585. If using 711 Relay or Video Relay Services, the number is also 1-800-621-FEMA. FEMA phone lines are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT seven day a week; multilingual operators are available.
