An overnight car crash causes power problems and headaches for morning commuters in south Tulsa.

A sedan slammed into a utility pole on 71st Street just east of Riverside Drive around 11:00pm Monday night.

PSO spokesperson Stan Whiteford said two 45-foot poles were sheared off on impact, initially knocking out service to 3,000 customers.

Technicians routed power around the system and reduced the number of affected customers to 48. The process of replacing those poles shut down 71st Street for hours, tying up traffic in the area.

Whiteford said the work will wrap up around 11:00am. It's unclear at this point what caused the crash.
