UPDATE: Roadways Open Again After Oil Tanker Spill Downtown

Posted: Updated:

Roadways closed in a morning semi-tanker crash and spill have now reopened following hours of cleanup.

Tulsa Fire, Haz-Mat and police dealt with the 4,000 gallon crude oil spill when the truck flipped over near the heart of downtown Thursday morning.

The exit ramp from eastbound I-244 to northbound L.L. Tisdale Parkway was closed for more than four hours while crews siphoned off spilled oil.

Firefighters dug a makeshift trench to try and divert the oil before it reached storm drains.

The driver - Henry Jackson, Jr. - was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out and was released.

Jackson was on his way from Billings, Okla. to the Port of Catoosa with the load.

He spoke briefly with Channel 8's Kim Jackson and said he travels the route all the time.

Investigators think speed played a role in the crash.

Watch Kim Jackson's full reports tonight at 4:00pm and 5:00pm on Tulsa's Channel 8.
