Help John 3:16 Feed Families During The Holidays

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma ranks as the 4th hungriest state in the country.

That can be tough on families, especially during the holidays.

The John 3:16 Mission has already collected 20,000 pounds of food for Thanksgiving.

But they're goal is to reach at least another 90,000 pounds.

"What John 3:16 Mission wants is families to still have the opportunity to celebrate together during the holidays," says John 3:16 COO Steven Whitaker. "To miss that opportunity to have a meal together that's traditional and brings us together, that we might not otherwise have, would be a bad thing."

John 3:16 Mission plans to distribute up to 5,000 turkey baskets (Nov. 19 -21), each containing a frozen turkey of about 12 lbs. and enough canned and boxed food items to provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal to a family of four. Here are ways you can help:

Purchase one or more frozen turkeys and bring them to the Mission

Drop off locations: 506 N. Cheyenne Ave. (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mon-Sun.)

2027 N. Cincinnati Ave. (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon. - Fri.)

Under the Sun (normal business hours); 91st and Sheridan, 5151 S. Harvard.

Shop at Reasor's (on the following dates, times and locations) and pick up extra canned food items for the homeless and hungry. We will have bins at the store exits to place the food in.

Oct 27 - 8 a.m. to 2pm, Owasso (116th Street, 86th Street) and Claremore

Nov 3 - 8 a.m. to 2pm, Broken Arrow (101st/Elm, 71st/Lynn Lane), Catoosa

Nov 10 - 8 a.m. to 2pm, Tulsa (41st/Yale, 21st/Yale, 71st/Sheridan)

Nov 17 - 8 a.m. to 2pm, Jenks, Sapulpa, Sand Springs

Organize a canned food drive at your office, church, civic club or neighborhood. The Mission can help you organize a canned food drive. Simply call 918-587-1186. We also can arrange to have the food picked up.

For more information about these food relief efforts, please call 918-587-1186.
