Middle Schoolers Create Ornaments For White House Christmas Tree

Posted: Updated:

A group of middle school students are celebrating a big honor.

Their art will be displayed for the First Family.

Students at East Central Junior High were selected to create ornaments for the White House Christmas tree.

They've already been shipped off to Washington, D.C.

They feature famous Oklahomans like Mickey Mantle, Rue McClanahan, Bob Wills, and Patty Paige.

It took students about a month to create.

They're thrilled to display their work at the White House.

"They honestly were in a case of disbelief that they got selected to do this," says art teacher Michele Clancy. "It was an honor for them. They just felt so special.">

"I'm kind of excited that it's going to be put on the tree," says 8th grader George Gritts. "Because it gets to show what we did and how much we like art."

Clancy will be in the audience for the tree lighting ceremony.

The students created another set of ornaments for a Philbrook Museum Christmas tree.
