66ers Head Coach Started Young

Posted: Updated:

Tulsa 66ers new head coach Darko Rajakovic has traveled a long way to coach here in Tulsa.  If you guessed 5577-miles, you are the winner.

Coach Rajakovic is from Serbia and becomes the first European born coach in D-League history.

Tuesday he introduced himself and his team at the Tulsa 66ers Media Day.  Coach Rajakovic started his coaching career at the age of 16.  He's 33-years-old now.

"Even though I'm 33-years-old I consider myself and old school coach." Coach Rajakovic said, "Because when I started coaching at the age of 16 my mentor and head coach of the team I was coaching with was that type of old coach.  Detail oriented, lots of fundamentals, player development.  And it was something I picked up and followed through my whole career.

The 66ers open the season at home on November the 23rd against Texas.  The 66ers opened training camp last Saturday.  They will play their games this season at the SpiritBank Events Center in Bixby.
