Maine Etna-Dixmont School is one of many schools using Math-Whizz to transition to Common Core
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) November 14, 2012
Schools in 45 states and three territories are racing to align their math lessons with Common Core State Standards. To help teachers meet the 2014 implementation deadline, Whizz Education, provider of Math-Whizz, the online math tool used in hundreds of elementary and middle schools across the country, has aligned Math-Whizz to Common Core. Teachers with Math-Whizz accounts now have access to a library of over 1,200 Common Core aligned interactive lessons and activities with a couple of clicks.
The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices to provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn.
“We are taking the guesswork out of Common Core alignment for elementary and middle school math teachers,” said Ben Keogh, President of Whizz Education. “Teachers have the option to select activities that support their daily lesson plans or they can choose to differentiate instruction by offering Common Core aligned lessons that are personalized to a particular student’s learning needs.”
States are expected to measure student performance against Common Core during the 2014-2015 school year. Math-Whizz enables teachers to monitor student performance in real-time on an ongoing basis and adjust their instruction accordingly. Many teachers tailor their small-group instruction based on Math-Whizz reports.
Jane P. Stork is Principal at the Maine Etna-Dixmont School, one of many schools using Math-Whizz to transition to Common Core. Stork said “The program will help our school’s teachers make the necessary instructional shifts to address the Common Core, while supporting students whose math skills and understanding may be below grade level.”
According to Stork, the personalized nature of the platform affords students the opportunity to engage in additional practice or leap ahead depending on what they need at a given moment. Visualization of mathematical concepts also accelerates understanding.
