Tulsa Today: Lines for a Final Movie Installment to Lawyers Fighting Hunger

From local lawyers banning together to fight hunger during the holidays to the arrival of Hertz in the Tulsa area, here's a rundown of event's occurring in the metro Friday.

The following events are just some of those happening Friday with updates posted throughout the morning as we send out crews and reporters to stories we're working on for our evening newscasts.

 

Tulsa: Lawyers Against Hunger is partnering with Iron Gate to distribute 700 turkeys and 500 food boxes to families and individuals in need in the Tulsa area. The food will be donated to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma throughout Friday morning.

 

At the Movies: It's finally here, the final chapter of the Twilight franchise. And with it brought several Tulsans lining up early at the movie theaters waiting to see the film. Were you one of them? If so, send your photos to viewerpics@ktul.com.

 

University of Tulsa: The campus is turning on its Christmas lights Friday afternoon inviting all those in the community to attend. Those interested in attending should get to the Chapman Commons at 5 p.m. for hot chocolate, carols and the turning on of the lights.

 

New York Times Bestseller: Mo Willems will speak to more then 900 second grade students at the Tulsa City-County Library's 2012 "Books to Treasure." The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a book signing at 7 p.m.

 

Tulsa: CleanNG, a Tulsa-based compressed natural gas storage tank manufacturer, was named as one of the best new startups in the world, by Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW). The company was one of nearly 400 applicants during the decision process.

 

Metro Chamber: The Federal Trade Commission recently approved the acquisition of the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group by Hertz and the Chamber welcomed the global company to the region. "The Chamber looks forward to working with Hertz as the company integrates operations in Tulsa," Mike Neal, Tulsa Metro Chamber CEO said. Tulsa Public Schools: Superintendent Keith Ballard is continuing discussions with OKC's superintendent on the continuous learning calendar. Survey's will be sent out to parents regarding the issue. Stay with KTUL.com as we follow this development.

 

Oologah Lake: The search continues for a man reported missing last week out of Oologah Lake. KTUL.com received word that a boat had capsized with one possible drowning victim. Crews are still out with equipment looking for them. Check back with us as we follow this incident.

 

Fire Department: Tulsa's Fire Chief and other officials will be on hand to present its plan to update its emergency medical response by upgrading the capabilities of three of the department's current apparatus. The presentation will discuss benefits to citizens, future expansion plans and unveiling the new response apparatus.

 

Hostess: The company of Twinkies and Ding Dongs has announced that it will liquidate its business effectively laying off all of its employees. Workers have been on strike since last week and were given until Thursday afternoon to return to work. It is expected that 18,500 jobs will be lost along with those here in Tulsa.
