Posted: Updated:

That place where the wind comes "sweepin' down the plain" and where the wind comes right before the rain, well it's celebrating its 105th birthday Friday.

On this day, Oklahoma became the nation's 46th state back in 1907. And now the Sooner State is celebrating another year of statehood.

According to the State's website, people from all over the U.S. came to Oklahoma to strike it rich. Rich in oil that is and with it cities like Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Ponca City all flourished.

The state has been the birthplace of stars like Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks and Vince Gill. And also home to historical legends like Will Rogers and Jim Thrope.

In addition to well-known people, the state is also home to the Oklahoma City Thunder and 43 colleges and universities.

Oklahoma is also home to a rich Native American culture with 39 tribes and nations of American Indians with headquarters in Oklahoma. Descendants of the original 67 tribes inhabiting Indian Territory still live here.
