66ers Open Season With A Win

Posted: Updated:

The Tulsa 66ers opened the season with an 83-76 win over the Texas Legends on Friday night at the SpiritBank Event Center behind a triple-double from DeAndre Liggins.

Currently on an NBA D-League assignment by the Oklahoma City Thunder, Liggins led his new squad with a triple-double of 15 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Fellow OKC assignment Daniel Orton scored 10 points and grabbed 11 boards.

Tulsa's first-round draft pick, Dominique Sutton, scored 13 points while grabbing six rebounds and recording two steals. Andy Rautins notched 11 points, five rebounds and a pair of assists.

Tulsa led for the final three quarters of a tightly contested defensive. Before both teams scored 28 points in the fourth, neither had scored over 20 in any of the first three quarters. Tulsa forced 21 turnovers while giving up 22.

The Legends' offense was fueled by Chris Douglas-Roberts (31 points) and Chris Roberts (22 points).

The season-opener also marked the first under new Tulsa head coach Darko Rajakovic. The historic matchup between Rajakovic (a Serbian) and Texas' Eduardo Najera (born in Mexico) marked the first time in NBA D-League history that an international-born head coach paced the sidelines of a game.

The 66ers and Legends face off again on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 at the SpiritBank Event Center. For more information, visit Tulsa66ers.com
