T-Town Rundown: What's Happening Around the Tulsa Area Today

Here's a list of things happening in the Tulsa area on Wednesday.

As always, follow KTUL.com for full-length coverage on larger stories occurring in the area, state and nation. The following events are just some of those happening Thursday with updates posted throughout the morning as we send out crews and reporters to stories we're working on for our evening newscasts.

 

For the dog lovers: Furry Angel Tree is back at area locations to benefit the Legacy of Hope Dog Rescue. The Christmas trees showcase the dogs at the rescue and items in need. Donations range from blankets and begs to kennels and gift certificates. Sites include the Woodland Broken Arrow Pet Resort and Dr. Voss' office in Checotah.

University of Tulsa: A research professor will be presenting a discussion on fracking versus strip mining and how they both impact the environment. The presentation is free and open to the public and will take place at 7 p.m. in the Helmerich Hall.

Tulsa: Ten local charities will receive final checks for the 2012 Turn Tulsa Pink campaign. The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. at the OU Tulsa - Learning Center. Charities include Cancer Sucks, Hannah's Helping Hands and Oklahoma Family Network - Pediatric Oncology Outreach.

Basketball: Oral Roberts University will face off against the University of Oklahoma tonight at 7 p.m. This will be the first time the two meet since 1995 inside the Mabee Center.

The Arts: Tulsa's Performing Arts Center will begin its performance of "A Christmas Story" at the Liddy Doenges Theatre. The play will run through the end of the month and on Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. It's a memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas.

Winterfest: Activities continue outside the BOK Center with an outdoor skating rink and carriage rides. This is the fifth year for the event and will last through Jan. 6 for adults and children interested.

Downtown: If you're looking to get your shopping done in stores you may have never seen before, head to the Deco District's Pop-Up Shopping Event. Alongside Boston Avenue from Fifth and Seventh Streets, you can see 12-15 shops with various themes.
