T-Town Rundown: What's Happening Around the Tulsa Area Today

Here's a list of things happening in the Tulsa area on Friday and this weekend.

As always, follow KTUL.com for full-length coverage on larger stories occurring in the area, state and nation. The following events are just some of those happening Thursday with updates posted throughout the morning as we send out crews and reporters to stories we're working on for our evening newscasts.

 

Winterfest: Activities continue outside the BOK Center with an outdoor skating rink and carriage rides. This is the fifth year for the event and will last through Jan. 6 for adults and children interested.

Downtown: If you're looking to get your shopping done in stores you may have never seen before, head to the Deco District's Pop-Up Shopping Event. Alongside Boston Avenue from Fifth and Seventh Streets, you can see 12-15 shops with various themes.

The Arts: Tulsa's Performing Arts Center will begin its performance of "A Christmas Story" at the Liddy Doenges Theatre. The play will run through the end of the month and on Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. It's a memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas.

University of Tulsa: Those wanting some football in their weekend can head to H. A. Chapman Stadium for the championship football game. Beginning at 11 a.m., TU will face the UCF Knights in a rivalry game that has lead them to a 4-2 series.

Movies: The Admiral Twin Drive-In will close out the 2012 season with final screenings this weekend. Check KTUL.com for a full-length story. Screenings begin after 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Christmas Lights: Head on over to Broken Arrow for their annual Rhema lights display. Visitors can see the displays at Rhema Baptist Church with two million lights and over 100,000 shimmering bulbs synchronized to Christmas music.

Muskogee: If Broken Arrow isn't your thing, then head to Muskogee's Garden of Lights showcase at Honor Heights Park. With more than 1,000,000 shimmering lights and 120 acres of trees, bushes and water areas decorated, you're bound to be in the Christmas season by the end of it.
