TULSA, Okla. -
The Tulsa Oilers gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Arizona Sundogs.
Each
team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Michel Beausoleil
secured the win for Tulsa with a goal in the third period.
The
Oilers were led by Beausoleil, who grabbed one goal. Beausoleil scored
on the power play 9:39 into the third period to make the score 4-3
Tulsa. Tulsa had gained a power play chance when Chad Nehring was
whistled for holding. Ryan Menei provided the assist.
The Oilers
put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not
allow Arizona to score on any of its three power plays. Tulsa relied on a
core group of players for most of its offense, as Beausoleil, Ben
Gordon and Ryan Cramer took 14 of the team's 26 shots.
Tulsa also
got points from Gordon, who also had one goal and one assist and Menei,
who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points.
In addition, Tulsa received assists from Drew Fisher, who had two and
Mike Ullrich, Jake Trask, and Troy Ofukany, who contributed one a piece.
By firing 37 shots on goal, the Sundogs exceeded the 23.6 shots they average per game this year.
Arizona
was helped by Mario Larocque, who racked up one goal. Larocque scored
1:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Arizona. Arizona also
got a goal from Jake Hauswirth as well. More assists for Arizona came
via Kevin Petovello, Karl Linden, and Jeff Kyrzakos, who each chipped in
one.
The Oilers took out Mike Garman after he had made 32 saves
and installed Ian Keserich in goal, where he finished with two saves and
the win. Tulsa incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
Adam Russo recorded 22 saves for the Sundogs. Arizona incurred 10
minutes in penalty time with five minors.
