OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Republican Steering Committee has selected Oklahoma congressman-elect Markwayne Mullin to serve on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Committee on Natural Resources.

Mullin says both committees have jurisdiction over key areas that are vital to Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District. Their responsibilities include funding for roads, bridges and ports and issues involving mineral resources on public lands and matters involving federally recognized tribes.

Mullin, a Republican, received 57% of the vote in the Nov. 6 election for the open seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, a Democrat from Muskogee.

Mullin has spent two weeks in Washington, D.C., since his election attending House orientation events and meeting with Steering Committee members to discuss potential committee selections. He will be sworn in in January.
