The bond of an Oklahoma teen who is accused of plotting a mass shooting at his high school was increased to $1 million in the wake of Friday's shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.
Sammie Eaglebear Chavez, 18, is charged with attempting or conspiring to perform an act of violence, according to court records.
His bond was originally set at $200,000, but was increased five-fold following the deadly shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
Chavez was arrested after he tried earlier this week to recruit fellow Bartlesville High School students to assist in Columbine-style school shooting, according to a court affidavit.
The students said Chavez told them he planned to lure students into auditorium and chain the doors shut and begin shooting, the affidavit states.
Students also reported that Chavez planned to put bombs at the doors of the school to detonate when police arrived, according to the affidavit.
Bartlesville school administrators notified police after hearing rumors about the plot and are continuing to work with law enforcement, officials said.
"We are extremely pleased that our students were never in harm's way," Superintendent Dr. Gary Quinn said in a statement.
"I am proud of our administrative personnel who took what started out as an unsubstantiated rumor, and through their diligent work and exhaustive investigation were able to determine there could be a future threat."
