OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe wants Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to stop the planned delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Egypt.
Inhofe said Tuesday that he asked Clinton in a letter Monday to delay delivery of the first four F-16s that are scheduled for Jan. 22.
Inhofe is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and said current Egyptian President Muhammad Morsi's "dictatorial decree and absence of promoting promised democracy" is a reason to re-examine the delivery.
He says the agreement to provide the jets was approved in 2010 during the presidency of Hosni Mubarak.
The Secretary of State's press office didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Clinton is out of the office and under doctors' orders to rest after fainting and suffering a concussion last week.
