Oilers Wave Goalie Ian Keserich

Posted: Updated:

The Tulsa Oilers announced Thursday the signing of rookie goalie Shane Madolora and the re-signing of goalie Dan Bakala.  Veteran goaltender Ian Keserich has been waived.

Madolora, 5-10, 175 pounds, arrives in Tulsa after playing five games for the Fayetteville FireAntz of the SPHL.  Prior to turning pro, the 25-year old Madolora spent three seasons stopping pucks at Rochester Institute of Technology, a D-I program in the Atlantic Hockey Association.  During the 2010-11 campaign, his second season at R.I.T., Madolora played 28 games for the Tigers and recorded a 1.93 goals against average to go along with an outstanding .935 save percentage.  The Salinas, California native was between the pipes for 32 games in the 2011-12 season and he set a new R.I.T. record with seven shutouts in a single season.  Madolora wrapped up his R.I.T. career as the school's all-time leader in shutouts (13), lowest goals against average (1.98), highest save percentage (.932), and total saves (1,727).

"Shane's collegiate career was incredibly impressive," said Oilers Head Coach Bruce Ramsay.  "He's young and he's hungry and with so much experience playing at the highest level of college hockey, I really believe he can come into the CHL and make an impact for our team.  We've been looking for consistency at the goalie position and I think Shane can provide that for us as we move forward."

Bakala started the season with the Oilers and appeared in ten games before being released on November 29.  A product of Bemidji State University, Bakala earned his first professional victory on opening night of the 2012-13 season by stopping 25 shots in Tulsa's 4-3 win at Wichita.  In his first stint as an Oiler, the 25-year old went 2-3-2.

The Oilers part ways with Keserich after two and a half seasons.  In 17 appearances this season, the 26-year old was 5-10-0 with a 3.81 goals against average and a .884 save percentage.

"I want to thank Ian for everything he did for this organization," Ramsay said.  "I know he always gave me everything he had, and I appreciate his efforts, but at this time I have to do what I feel is best for the team.  I wish Ian nothing but the very best, and I know he will be successful wherever he chooses to go."

Bakala and Madolora will be in the lineup when the Oilers travel to Quad City on Friday night for the first of back-to-back games against the Mallards.

Tulsa is trying to snap a six-game losing streak and is looking for its first road win since November 10.  Both contests are set for 7:05 p.m. at i wireless Arena in Moline, Illinois.  Oilers fans are encouraged to watch all the action at the official Oilers watch party at Gusano's Chicago-Style Pizzeria at 101st and Mingo in South Tulsa.
