Boy, Grandmother Escape Fire With Minor Injuries

A boy and his grandmother escape with minor injuries during a house fire in east Tulsa.

It happened just after midnight Thursday near 4100 east Xyler.

Tulsa fire department arrived to see flames and smoke rising from the home's garage.

Crews on scene said the boy and his grandmother were still awake and smelled smoke. He went to the garage, saw the flames and helped get the elderly woman out.

The woman was treated for minor burns and the boy was treated for minor smoke inhalation. The two should recover.

Investigators on scene could not immediately give a cause. They said there were no working smoke detectors.
