Airport Construction Means Plane Change Above

Posted: Updated:

There's a change in the air over at Tulsa International Airport. Starting next week, work continues on the facility's main runway.

Crews are completely resurfacing the 10,000 foot strip of concrete that passenger and cargo planes use every day. It's highlighted in red on the picture to the right. The project's first three phases are complete.

The fourth phase, which starts Wednesday, is the most disruptive to the airport's operations.

While the work goes on, residents will notice a change above.

Airplanes will now approach and leave the airport from the east and west. They will use the crosswind runway, rather than the north and south option.

The work should be complete this coming summer.
