You can start the new year off with a run followed by a dip in freezing cold water.

The annual Race Into The New Year 5k run takes place New Year's Eve at 11:45.

The starting line is near the River Parks amphitheater.

There will also be a 1 mile fun run at 11:00 PM.

More than 1,000 people are expected to participate.

Organizers say it is a family friendly event with no alcohol.

There will be a costume contest for dogs at 10:30 PM.

Food and drinks will be available after the race.

Another race is scheduled for New Year's Day.

The Polar Bear Plunge begins at the River West Park at 1:00 PM.

After completing the 2 mile run, you can jump into one of three swimming pools that will be set up at the River Parks.

Pizza and drinks will be provided.
