Oklahoma Joins Multi-State Meth Registry

Posted: Updated:
Oklahoma City -

A new law taking effect on New Year's Day will require Oklahoma pharmacists to send profiles of people who purchase pseudoephedrine to a multi-state registry.

The purpose is to restrict the amount of the popular cold and allergy medicine trafficked across state lines.

Pseudoephedrine is an ingredient in manufacturing methamphetamine.

The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics says meth cooks have exploited the in-state registry by traveling to multiple states to buy pseudoephedrine.

The Oklahoma Legislature passed the law earlier this year.
