Leading provider of strategic online professional development solutions appoints veteran education business and non-profit leader.
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 03, 2013
Knowledge Delivery Systems (KDS), a leading provider of strategic online professional development solutions for teachers, schools and districts, announced today that the company has expanded its management team with the appointment of veteran education business and non-profit leader John Lent as Chief Operating Officer.
Lent’s hire will help KDS meet increased demand for cost-effective, scalable professional development as school districts across the country transition to the Common Core State Standards. Recent studies, including Putting a Price Tag on the Common Core, point to the cost and scalability benefits of online and blended professional development over tradition models, which will be critical in helping the nation’s 3.5 million teachers prepare to transition to the new standards. According to this study, the cost of transitioning to the Common Core is over $12 billion dollars, but could be reduced to as little as $3 billion using blended and online techniques.
“School districts of all sizes are recognizing the value of online and blended professional development model to provide fidelity and scale,” said Alvin Crawford, CEO of Knowledge Delivery Systems. “The Common Core has put incredible pressure on schools, districts and educators to adopt new standards quickly, efficiently and effectively. John’s experience in building and operating technology will help KDS meet the increasing need nationwide.”
“I’m excited to join KDS during this period of rapid growth as it addresses the increasing demands of school districts for professional development,” said John Lent. “KDS has the leadership, vision, content, technology and customer-focused culture to help schools and districts dramatically improve teachers’ and leaders’ practice as they transition to the Common Core. I look forward to helping school systems across the country build the capacity of their teachers and school leaders to help every student achieve success in school, college and career.”
Prior to joining KDS, Lent was Executive Director of New Leaders, where he led the EPIC program. Under Lent’s leadership, EPIC created the nation’s preeminent knowledge base of school leadership practices, and designed and launched the organization’s leadership development program, focusing on large, urban districts. Previously, Lent spent 20 years at Scholastic in a number of leadership positions, including Vice President, E-Learning and Professional Development, where he developed and ran Scholastic Red, a teacher professional development business that pioneered blended learning designs and implementation models that had a dramatic impact on improving educators’ practice. He also led Scholastic Inc.’s magazine division, and launched the first scholastic.com site and Scholastic Network, a fee-based curriculum and teacher community site.
