Both the Salvation Army and the Humane Society told Channel 8 they usually notice fewer volunteers and donations after the holiday season ends.
"January, February, March is always a slow time for donations, because people have just finished doing their year-end giving in November and December," said Maj. Jim Taylor with the Salvation Army in Tulsa.
However, both organizations stressed how important donations and volunteers continue to be in the New Year.
Taylor said the Salvation Army needs volunteers to help prepare and serve the free meals it offers daily. It also needs volunteers to help with disaster relief.
The Humane Society keeps a "Wish List," explaining it needs items like rawhides and blankets for its animals. It also needs volunteers to walk the dogs and do other helpful chores.
Both organizations said they had a very charitable holiday season. The Salvation Army collected toys for about 10,000 children and had more than 2,000 volunteers. It collected $650,000 in its red kettles.
If you would like to help the Salvation Army in the new year, you may visit its volunteer page.
You may call the Humane Society at (918) 495-3647 or stop by its office at 6232 E. 60th St. to fill out a volunteer application.
