Those who have missed Tulsa's only drive-in theater can rejoice now that the opening date has been announced.

The Admiral Twin Drive-In will welcome movie-lovers and their cars beginning March 1 for their first double feature of the spring season.

Co-owner Blake Smith told KTUL.com that while the theater will continue to show blockbusters and older films, they also plan to try some new things this time around.

He said that since the drive-in isn't able to screen matinees like other movie theaters, they want to use the lot space for special events and activities.

They include:

   - Car shows

   - Motorcycle swap meets

   - A night with the SPCA

   - Food trucks

   - Live bands

Smith said that in the spring the live bands will perform before the movies begin and the food trucks will be available throughout the evening.

Back in 2010, a fire destroyed the screen tower which had stood since 1951. With the help of the community, owners Steve Peace and Blake Smith were able to reopen the drive-in this past summer.

"2012 has been one of the best years that the business has ever had and we owe it to the great city of Tulsa for their support.," Smith said.
