A Sapulpa firefighter works keep flames from spreading to a nearby apartment complex.
Sapulpa, Oklahoma -
Fire Investigators are looking into what sparked a fire that destroyed a home and forced the evacuation of a nearby apartment complex near Downtown Sapulpa, late Sunday Night.
Neighbors tell KTUL.com, just before 10:30 they heard what sounded like an explosion coming from a home near Dewey and Birch.
When firefighters arrived on scene they found the home engulfed in flames.
The home's owner, Mark Mortazavi, owns the nearby Selena Steakhouse. He and his family were inside the restaurant eating dinner when they smelled the smoke. Fearing that it was the restaurant that was on fire, Mortazavi and his family ran out of the building, only to find the home next door on fire.
Mortazavi tells KTUL.com, that he had been prepping the home to be torn down later in the week. He said many of his personal belongings were inside the home at the time of the fire.
Fire crews did evacuate a nearby apartment complex for fears that high winds could spread the fire further.
Flames did however, damage part of Mortazavi's next door restaurant. The extent of the fire damage is unknown at this time.
Assistant Chief David Taylor with the Sapulpa says the cause of the fire is unknown and that there are no immediate indications that the fire is in any way suspicious.
