Police have identified the man shot by an officer after a standoff at a Tulsa apartment complex over the weekend.
Juan Antonio Gonzalez was killed by Tulsa Police Officer Daniel Madewell after police were originally called to the Coppermill Apartments near 71st and Yale around Saturday evening on reports of a suicidal subject.
TPD stated that a Gonzalez reportedly chased his roommate out of one of the units with a knife and had no success when officers attempted to make contact with him. He reportedly came out on the apartment's balcony several times and was also starting small fires inside the apartment.
Shortly before 11 p.m., Gonzalez once again came out onto the apartment's balcony, this time with what appeared to officers to be some sort of "long rifle." The object was later identified as a BB Gun.
According to TPD, Gonzalez pointed the weapon at Madewell and fearing for his life, Madewell fired "multiple shots" at the suspect, hitting him at least once. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Madewell is now on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation
