Lawmakers Seek To Protect Oklahoma Guns From Federal Laws

Posted: Updated:
Oklahoma City (AP) -

Guns and ammunition made in Oklahoma would not be subject to federal laws or regulations under a bill that has been approved by a House panel.

The "Firearms Freedom Act" was one of two gun bills passed Wednesday by the House Public Safety Committee.

The other bill allows private schools to develop their own rules and regulations on whether teachers and visitors to the school could be armed.

Both measures now proceed to the House Calendar Committee which decides whether the bills will be scheduled for a vote in the full House.

Supporters say the Firearms Freedom Act is designed to ensure the federal government doesn't encroach on Oklahomans' gun rights.
