Students at Wright Elementary get an interesting prize for meeting their reading goal Wednesday.
Principal Mike Howe will let his students shave his beard for reading more than 6,000 books. The challenge started in September when Howe wanted to encourage them to meet their February reading goal.
And they did. Wright students have read 11,000 books and counting.
At 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, about 20 of the top reading students will use an electric razor to trim Howe's beard before he shaves the rest of it off backstage. While the principal is backstage, another group of top readers will make a teacher into a "human sundae."
Howe said he has "done something wild every year I have been a principal in TPS," including the beard-growing/shaving challenge in 1994, 1995, 1999, 2001 and 2003.
As an inspection of the Ozark Pipeline continues at the floor of Oologah Lake, the company overseeing the project is working to assure everyone that there is no reason for concern.More >>
