A Broken Arrow native living in Rome was able to witness Pope Francis' first public speech. Seminarian Sean O'Brien with the Diocese of Tulsa talked to Good Morning Oklahoma's Keith Taylor and Laura Moss about being in Rome right now.
He said it was very exciting during the says leading up to the historical resignation of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and the new election of Pope Francis. He said it was very amazing to be there to see the white smoke come out of the chimney.
O'Brien is studying in Rome now. O'Brien grew up in Broken Arrow and graduated from the Broken Arrow Senior High. He received a bachelors degree from St. Gregory's University in Shawnee, OK. Right after college, O'Brien began studying philosophy at a seminary in Denver for three years, and then transferred to Rome last July. He is a first year studying theology. He hopes to be ordained a priest in the summer of 2016 and return to Oklahoma for ministry.
