Surgical Experts in Direct-to-Implant Mastectomy Breast Reconstruction and Pediatric Cranio-Facial Repair Affiliate with New York Eye and Ear Infirmary
NEW YORK, March 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Plastic and reconstructive surgeons C. Andrew Salzberg, M.D. and Tae Ho Kim, M.D. of the New York Group for Plastic Surgery are now providing their surgical expertise in breast reconstruction and pediatric surgery to patients in the New York City area at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Salzberg is world-renowned for pioneering the direct to implant, or "one step," mastectomy breast reconstruction procedure. Dr. Kim is widely recognized for his skill in repairing cranio-facial (head and face) deformities in children and babies. Both surgeons are partners with the New York Group for Plastic Surgery, with established offices in Westchester and Orange Counties.
"For years women in Manhattan and the New York boroughs have been coming to Westchester for my direct to implant mastectomy breast reconstruction, which avoids the use of tissue expanders and a second implant surgery," said Dr. Salzberg. "Now they also have the option of having their surgery with me in the city at the New York Center for the Advancement of Breast Reconstruction within the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary."
"Parents in and near Manhattan with children in need of reconstructive surgery for complicated defects can now bring them to me for surgery at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary," said Dr. Kim. "The hospital has state-of-the-art equipment and a skilled team of experts I work closely with on advanced pediatric reconstructive procedures, such as repairing cleft lip and palate to restore a child's appearance and speech capability, or actually creating an ear that looks completely natural for a child born without one, a congenital condition know as microtia."
Dr. Salzberg also performs surgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York and at the Center for Specialty Care in New York. In addition to reconstructive surgery, both Dr. Salzberg and Dr. Kim perform a full range of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in their New York City and Westchester and Orange County locations.
Dr. Salzberg is associate professor at NY Medical College and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Westchester Medical Center and St. John's Riverside Hospital at Dobbs Ferry Pavilion. He also operates at the Institute for Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery within the Hudson Valley Hospital Center. He has performed his direct to implant breast reconstruction procedure on 532 women (926 breasts) to date. The surgery provides women undergoing mastectomy for breast cancer, or for prophylactic purposes such as a BRCA mutation, with the benefit of completing their surgery in one operation by avoiding the traditional tissue expander process.
Dr. Kim is assistant professor at New York Medical College and Chief of Pediatric Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center. He is one of the few pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgeons in the United States, and has performed more than 3000 operations on children with congenital problems (birth defects) such as cleft lip and palate, craniosynostosis, microtia, giant hairy nevi, and hemangiomas. He also operates on pediatric defects caused by trauma or disease.
