Tulsa's Health Department says it's easy to help fight Oklahoma's obesity and low health rankings, but you can't do it sitting down.
Fran Trujillo from the Tulsa Health Department stopped by KTUL's Good Morning Oklahoma as part of the program's bi-weekly Fit Friday segment. She said getting activity into your life doesn't have to be a chore.
"Physical activity is any kind of exercise or movement that is designed to make the body stronger and healthier," Trujillo said. But folks can even benefit from moderate to vigorous exercise such as brisk walking.
Getting active can help with depression, stress management and help women of childbearing age have healthy babies and healthier birth outcomes.
She went on to suggest more strenuous exercises, such as the popular Zumba craze that continues to sweep the nation. Zumba is a dance-fitness program that blends Latin and International music and choreography, Trujillo said. A typical session may last between 45 minutes to an hour.
Trujillo demonstrated the dance for just a minute or two with anchors Laura Moss and Andrew Kozak. After just a few steps, both Laura and Andrew were left a bit winded.
