Family and Friends Remember Ryder, Six-Year-Old Who Battled Cancer

Posted: Updated:

Family and friends of six-year-old Ryder Herring gathered for a service at First Baptist Church in Skiatook Saturday morning. Ryder lost his fight to brain cancer Thursday, March 14th.

Many attendees wore yellow ribbons for childhood cancer awareness.

"In his short six years, Ryder leaves a legacy bigger than most adults will," said family friend Tom Declue, who gave his eulogy. He referenced how Ryder's Facebook page has about 500,000 followers from around the world.

Family and friends remembered Ryder's favorite things at the service, with Ninja Turtles and Superman balloons.

Declue said Ryder brought attention to the issue of childhood cancer.

"That it exists," said Declue. "And that until they start paying attention to it, we're going to see more of these funerals with little kids."

Channel 8 has followed Ryder's journey for nearly two years. Those stories are posted on our website.
